Crikey, doesnt time fly when youre having fun?!! Voirrey has just pointed out that the 6 months is now up since the Annual Dinner and it is time for those shared trophies (in our case the Presidents Cup) to be passed on. Of course it also means that TT is looming so some obedience training nights will be cancelled as the hall is on the course, please check the Forthcoming Events and posters at club.
Hot on the heels of all this comes our Manx Action Dogs week (MAD) in July and I will be looking to recruit helpers for the two weekends that this covers so be prepared hopefully to say yes rather than offer an excuse! We have two weekends of great show action with obedience 12/13 and agility 19/20 July so its a great opportunity to see the action up close and fairly personal with lunch provided and no previous experience necessary! If you can spare a morning, full or even a whole weekend to help out that would be fantastic and you will be mentioned in dispatches!

Members Matter
Our sponsored walk in aid of the Retired Greyhounds Trust proved to be a resounding success and many thanks to each and every one of you who supported this either by walking or by sponsoring someone who did. There was an amazing turn out on the day and we were doubly blessed with lovely weather, which meant the dogs had a beano! Final figures are not yet known but we look to be well on track for about £1000!! Watch this space
Some of our members, two and four legged have been having some health problems of late and so we wish:
Mandy a swift, full and speedy recovery
Renees dog Ramsey has just had an op for a ruptured cruciate so we hope that he too makes a full recovery
And finally flyball superstar Chewy has had back problems and it seems he may have to consider a career change so our commiserations to Nick and Ruth
On a lighter note our best wishes to our flyball teams the Ramsey Raiders and Ramsey Runners at their first tournament of the year mid May, run fast and knock em out!!
Pup Quiz Question
Where might your dog pick up a tick from?
Paws In The Park
This is a new event organised in aid of Hospice on Sunday 25th May 12-4pm in the Millennium Oak Park. Theres a sponsored walk for those feeling energetic around the outside paths of the park as many laps as wished, a dog-themed treasure hunt based on some of the Paws For Therapy dogs with various questions and clues for the slightly less energetic, and for anyone who fancies taking part, therell be a bit of an agility demonstration, plus a few refreshments. For full details or a registration pack please call 647431.
Agility Action
Wow, what an amazing start to the year for our agility section! The first inter-club match of 2008 saw our team of 8 dogs take a resounding victory over the other two agility clubs with a lead that verged on embarrassing! Congratulations to each of those who took part. Unfortunately the second match to be held by the Douglas DTC early May had to be cancelled as the surface at their venue was felt to be far from safe for dogs or handlers. It is hoped that this will be rescheduled for June.
On top of this real high, it is fantastic to see so many new dogs starting on our Beginners Course, now into its third week. The dogs are all progressing really well and everyone seems to be really enjoying themselves. Of course being outdoors and enjoying the weather we are currently experiencing is the icing on the cake!
Pup Quiz Answer
A tick (or sheep tick) can be picked up just about anywhere. It is a blood sucking parasite that will take any opportunity to climb on to a passing host (your dog or even you) and then inserts its head through the skin to feed and gorge itself on blood! This grim little creature can also carry some very unpleasant diseases so it is best dealt with swiftly but carefully as the head can be left in the skin leading to infection if not removed properly. There are some clever little devices for removing them (Tom o Hook is great) and some flea treatments are also effective against ticks or you could wait until they drop off. If you are unsure how to deal with it ask your vet for advice.
